Portfolio

This photo is of Darlington railway station that I took in my own time. I took this as I was taking photos of places that Darlington is well-known for and the railway station is one of these places as the Stockton and Darlington railway was the first commercial steam railway in the world. I used a Canon EOS 450D and used a large aperture, f/5.6. I edited it on Photoshop by adjusting the levels as this made the details stand out more and I also cropped it slightly to get rid of any unwanted parts.

This photo is from my fashion project at college which I based on grunge/casual fashion. I decided to take it in a wooded area to give a grungy feel but without making it look creepy, so I took it in my garden. I used a Canon EOS 1000D and used a large aperture, f/4, because I was outside so there was a lot of light. I edited it on Photoshop by changing it to black and white, adjusted the levels, cropped it and burned in the person a bit as he blended in with the trees slightly.

This is a photo I took on a day out in Hartlepool. I took it using a Canon EOS 450D with the f stop set to f.29. I edited it on Photoshop by adjusting the levels and dodging and burning some areas to make them stand out more. I also cropped it into a square so that only the most important parts were showing.

This photo is of the brick train model in Darlington that I took in my own time. I took this as I was taking photos of places that Darlington is well-known for and brick train represents the fact that Stockton and Darlington railway was the first commercial steam railway in the world. I used a Canon EOS 450D and set the aperture to f/22. I edited it on Photoshop by adjusting the levels as this made the details stand out more and I used the clone tool to remove part of a fence that was on the grass.

This is a photo I took for my advertising project in college. We had to advertise a perfume bottle of our choice and I chose to advertise Lola by Marc Jacobs. I took this photo using a Canon EOS 1100D with the f stop set to F22. This photo is of my perfume bottle inside a light tent with umbrella lighting. I like the way I have set the bottle out with the lid next to the bottle because you can’t tell the lid is a flower more and makes it stand out more. 

This is a photo I took for my advertising project in college. We had to advertise a perfume bottle of our choice and I chose to advertise Lola by Marc Jacobs. I took this photo using a Canon EOS 1100D with the f stop set to f.8. I took it in the studio using soft box lighting as this created a soft, summery effect. 

For my advertising project we had to create a poster which advertised our chosen perfume bottle. This is my final advertisement. I chose to put trees in the background as I wanted it to look summery and link to nature as the bottle is presented as a flower. I edited this by using levels set on red to make the trees look warmer/summery. I put the Marc Jacobs logo at the top as this is the make of my chosen perfume bottle.

This is a silhouette I did in the studio at college when we were doing portraits. I took this photo using a Canon EOS 450D with the f stop set to f/13. I edited this photo by adjusting the levels so the figure appeared darker and the background look more bleached out. I also used the spot healing tool as you creases on the backdrop were visible. I then put it in black and white to add a better effect. 

This photo is from my surrealism project at college which I based on a ghost/horror theme. I took this photo at college using a Canon EOS 1000D. I used a small aperture when taking this photo, f/14 and set the exposure time to 1.6 seconds so that I could capture the movement of the person in the photo. I showed the movement of the person as I wanted to make it look like the person’s spirit was coming out of her body to create a ghostly/horror effect.

This photo is an Image transfer photo that I did for my surrealism project at college which I based on a ghost/horror theme. To create my image transfer I printed one of my own photos out and placed it face down onto some card and then coated it in Emulsion paint. I left it on the window to dry and then I wet my finger and rubbed the photo until the paint all peeled off.  

This is a sun drawing I did at college of some leaves and flowers. I did this as part of our workshop project in first year when we were learning how to do different techniques. I created this by placing photo paper onto a white board, placed flowers and leaves onto the photo paper and then placed glass over the top to hold them into place. I then left it for about 3 minutes in the sun light. 

This is a pinhole photo I did at the beginning of first year in college for our workshop project were we learnt how to do different techniques. I got a pringle tube, put a hole in it and put black tape on the inside of the tube to block too much light coming in. I then put a piece of photo paper into the tube where the hole is and left it for 30 seconds. I then turned the tube upside down and left it for another 30 seconds.

This is a double negative print I did for my surrealism project at college which I based on a ghost/horror theme. To create this I used a 35mm film camera. I chose two photos I took of dolls, put both the negatives in the enlarger and exposed it for 10 secs on f.8. I used dolls for my project as dolls can be seen as quite creepy and remind me of something that would be seen in a horror film.

This is a page from my digital sketchbook for my documentary project at college which was based around 'life'. When doing this project I decided to focus on animal life and how different animals live in different environments. This page explains how I have created one of my final film photographs of one of my brother’s ducks and the stages I went through to get to my final outcome.

This is a photo I took on my iPhone when I was on holiday with my friends in Ibiza. I edited this photo by cropping it slightly so that certain things didn't show such as a sign saying 'Ibiza Rocks'. I cropped this out as it gives the photo more mystery as no one will know where this photo was actually taking and gives a different feel to the setting not knowing that it was taking where it was.

This is a photo I took on my iPhone of a field on a farm when I was on my way to go camping with my friends. It has a simple composition and the colours are quite cold. I like the way the house in the distance is placed in the middle and how you do not notice it straight away.
